Why Your Driver Might Take a Quick Break — And Why That’s Okay

Why Your Driver Might Take a Quick Break — And Why That’s Okay

As we work hard to improve your experience with the ongoing Transit Center renovation, you may notice a few changes during your ride. One change that might catch your attention is your Bus Operator stepping off the bus for a short restroom or refreshment break. Here’s what you should know—and why it matters.

No Restrooms at the Transit Center Right Now

Due to the ongoing renovation of our Downtown Transit Center, there are no public or staff restrooms available on site. That means bus operators—like any working professional—need to take quick breaks when nature calls. Since our drivers don’t currently have access to a designated restroom space at the Transit Center, they are permitted to stop along their route at a nearby public restroom.

This isn’t a new practice. In fact, operators have always been allowed to step off the bus when necessary. But while the Transit Center is under construction, you may see it happening more often.

What Happens While the Driver is Away?

When your operator steps off the bus for a restroom break:

  • You can remain seated on the bus. You are welcome to stay seated and wait until the operator returns. You will not be able to exit the bus during this time unless it is an emergency.
  • You may also exit the bus and wait outside if you prefer to stretch your legs or grab a snack nearby. If you exit the bus, you will not be able to re-enter until the Bus Operator returns. There will be no fee to re-board during this time.

Your Patience Makes a Difference

We understand that waiting a few extra minutes for your Bus Operator to return may feel like an inconvenience—but we kindly ask for your patience and understanding. This adjustment is a necessary part of supporting our frontline staff while we make long-overdue improvements to the Downtown Transit Center.

By the end of the project, we’ll have updated restrooms, a more comfortable customer space, and a better transit experience for everyone. Until then, small accommodations like this help keep our system moving with care and dignity—for both riders and employees.

Thank you for riding with us and supporting your Lextran team!
