Through a partnership with the Bluegrass Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, Lextran operates Wheels. This shared ride, door-to-door, public transportation service is for Lexington-Fayette County area citizens with disabilities. This program supplements Lextran’s fixed-route service by providing accessible service to those who need it.
Wheels Eligibility
Since Wheels is an application based service, customers must meet the eligibility requirements. Determinations on eligibility are processed by ADA Ride If you would like to apply for Wheels, please call (877) 232-7433 or visit www.adaride.com.
ADA Ride’s hours of operation are Monday – Friday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm EST. They are closed for lunch 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm EST.
Eligibility decisions are made within 21 days of receipt of a completed application by the applicant and healthcare provider. Determinations are usually issued by mail. If you do not receive notice of a decision within 21 days, you will be provided presumptive eligibility to schedule and use the service on the 22nd day until a final determination is issued.
Fares
When both the origin and destination are within three-fourths (3/4) of a mile of a Lextran fixed route, the fare is $1.60 each way. If the origin or the destination are further than three-fourths (3/4) of a mile from a Lextran fixed route, the premium fare is $2 each way.
Wheels collects exact cash, checks, or pre-sold passes when boarding. One personal care attendant (PCA) can ride for free. If space is available, additional people can ride with any passenger at the same rate per person. All attendants and companions must have the same origin and destination.
