Through a partnership with RATP-Dev, Lextran operates Wheels. This shared ride, door-to-door, public transportation service is for Lexington-Fayette County citizens with disabilities. This program supplements Lextran’s fixed-route service by providing accessible service to those who need it.
Wheels Eligibility
Since Wheels is an application based service, customers must meet the eligibility requirements. Determinations on eligibility are processed by ADA Ride If you would like to apply for Wheels, please call (877) 232-7433 or visit www.adaride.com.
ADA Ride’s hours of operation are Monday – Friday 11:00 am – 7:00 pm EST. They are closed for lunch 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm EST.
Eligibility decisions are made within 21 days of receipt of a completed application by the applicant and healthcare provider. If you do not receive notice of a decision within 21 days, you will be provided presumptive eligibility to schedule and use the service on the 22nd day until a final determination is issued.
The ADA Ride website provides users with a Google Translate widget that allows access to information in additional languages. There is a dedicated phone number for Spanish speakers 1 (877) 232-7433. Applications are available in additional languages upon request.
Fares
The complimentary paratransit fare is $1.60 each way. Premium trips cost $2.00 each way and occur when the origin, destination, or both are outside of three-fourths (3/4) of a mile of a Lextran fixed-route.
Wheels collects exact cash, checks, or pre-sold passes when boarding. One personal care attendant (PCA) can ride for free. If space is available, companions can ride with any passenger at the same rate per person and should be requested when scheduling. All attendants and companions must have the same origin and destination.
Scheduling a Trip
Trips can be scheduled by calling Wheels Dispatch at (859) 233-3433. Reservations are accepted as early as 14 days in advance or as late as 5:00 pm the day before trip is to be scheduled.
Have the following information available:
- Name of passenger, day and date of your trip
- Exact street address of pick-up and destination locations
- Requested pick up or appointment time
All pick-up times are scheduled in half-hour time frames.
Cancelling a Trip
Reservations should be cancelled as soon the passenger knows the trip cannot be completed. If a reservation is not cancelled by 4:45 pm the day before the scheduled trip it will be considered a late cancellation. An excessive number of late cancellations or no show violations could result in suspension.
