Traveling With Children
The big bus windows, the stop announcements, and the experience of riding Lextran as family is something all children enjoy. Read on for some helpful tips and guidelines for traveling with children.
Fare
Children ages 6 and under ride for free with an adult. Lextran allows up to 5 children per adult. Kids between 7 and 18 pay a fare of $0.80. For more information click here.
Bringing a stroller
Lextran recommends using a folding “umbrella” style stroller when riding the bus. These types of strollers are light, compactable, and are easily stowed. Large and double-wide strollers are not practical for use on Lextran buses. When boarding the bus you may ask the operator to deploy the ramp or lift. Before the bus begins moving you must remove your child, fold, and stow the stroller so that it does not block the aisle. Priority seating should be yielded to seniors and people with disabilities.
Safety
Parents should keep children close by so you don’t get separated while riding Lextran. Traffic does not stop when Lextran buses do. Cross the street at traffic signals or designated pedestrian crossings only. No running or playing on the platform at the Downtown Transit Center.
Other rules and etiquette
It’s never too early to teach your child how to be a great passenger. When they are old enough, educate them on rider etiquette. For more information click here.
