Bringing Your Bike
Biking is a great way to connect riders to their bus stop. As Lexington becomes more bike friendly, it is important to Lextran to support all forms of alternative transportation.
All Lextran buses are equipped with a bike rack capable of carrying 2 standard size bicycles. If both slots are full, you may be asked to bike nearer to your destination or wait for the next bus. No bicycles are allowed on board the buses.
Spin bikeshare bikes are available throughout the city and can supplement your trip to and from bus stops. Due to the weight and size of Spin bikes, they cannot be transported on Lextran buses. They can be neatly parked near bus stops or the Downtown Transit Center without blocking ADA access. Â
Loading your bike on the bike rack
- Be sure the bus has come to a complete stop and acknowledge the driver before stepping in front of the bus. Always approach the front of the bus from the curb side. Traffic will not stop so remain in front of the bus. Â
- Squeeze the handle to release and lower the bike rack.Â
- Lift your bicycle up to rest in the rack and fit your tires into the slots. If there is not currently a bicycle on the rack, please place yours as close the bus as possible. The bike is not yet secure, so hold on to it. Â
- Pull and extend the yellow hook out and place it over your front tire as close to the frame as possible to secure the bike.Â
- Remove any loose or obstructive items, including panniers and board the bus normally.Â
Unloading your bike
- Exit through the front door and let the driver know that you have a bike on the rack.
- Extend the yellow hook up removing it from the front tire and lower it all the way down.
- Remove your bike from the rack.
- If there are no other bicycles, squeeze the handle and lift the rack all the way back to an upright position until it locks into place.
If your bike or accessories are forgotten on the bus, please contact Customer Service at 859-253-4636 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday – Friday or Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Lextran is not responsible for lost items.
